In 2020, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced an intention to restart the HPV vaccination program. Successful resumption of the HPV vaccination program depends largely on attitudes toward the HPV vaccine; therefore, studies to investigate society's perception of the vaccine are an essential part of vaccination. This is an important population group that requires more information on the HPV vaccination program.

On the 3rd of June, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Vyacheslav Dudnik, visited the Medical School and the main University Campus to be informed about the progress of the targeted research program on aging and healthy lifespan funded by the Ministry of Health (MOH). The Deputy Minister was given a guided tour of the Medical School Building focusing on the research facilities and laboratories of Dr. Economic sanctions are one of the most used instruments of economic statecraft by powerful countries, especially the United States (USA).

However, we have little understanding of the effectiveness of such coercive tactics, especially in the field of foreign policy. Balanay from the Department of Chemistry, School of Science and Humanities has recently published research papers in collaboration with Kunsan National University, Gunsan, Korea on the use of bridged structures as sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells as shown in the figure below. In this chapter, an overview of the brief history is provided to provide a background on solar cell technology.

A research collaboration between the members of the fmc2 laboratory and the research group of Dr.

RESEARCHERS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL AND MATERIALS ENGINEERING DEVELOP SYNTHETIC GRAFTS FOR ANTERIOR CRUCIATE

LIGAMENT RECONSTRUCTION

RESEARCHERS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND MATERIALS DEVELOP SYNTHETIC POINTS FOR APPETIZER MUG. In the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at NU, the native ACL tissues from cattle, sheep and rats were successfully characterized and demonstrated to exhibit similar bimodal fibril diameter distributions. We are now developing synthetic grafts that mimic the morphological characteristics of the native ACL tissue.

Our studies reveal that the fiber diameter distribution of polycaprolactone-based synthetic grafts is similar to that of collagen fibrils in native ACL tissue (Figure 1). Together with the group of surgeons led by Dina Saginova at the National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after academician N.D. Batpenov, Nur-Sultan, we are conducting in-vivo tests on the performance of PCL grafts developed at NU (Figure 2A) using rabbit ACL reconstruction models (Figure 2B, C).

However, ACL tears near the ACL-bone interface require a bony nature for biologic integration that could be achieved with the implantation of synthetic grafts designed for ligament-to-bone attachment. It is therefore expected that our work will have a significant impact on the advancement of orthopedic research and the improvement of synthetic grafts for the attachment of soft tissue to bone.

Inside this issue: Funding Highlight: Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) Global and US Embassy Grant. In this work, the Consortium of Gender Scholars integrates gender-based scholarship with exchange of experiences across the country. Anna CohenMiller (Co-Founding Director of GenCon, GSE) leads the grant on behalf of GenCon.

The grant was awarded to work with Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) Global and the US Embassy along with the Alliance of Female Power. Empowerment Self Defense (ESD) is a system for learning how to avoid danger, de-escalate conflict, increase problem solving and build physical self-defense skills. These sexual orientation, abilities, physical appearance and class, among others - affect the way they experience sexism and gender-based violence.

The global approach to self-defense empowerment training supports the collective power of women to demand their rights to safety, respect and freedom from violence, exploitation and discrimination.

ESD GLOBAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE US EMBASSY

Sexual, emotional, physical and economic aggression and abuse - 17% of ever cohabiting women aged 18-75 reported experiencing physical or sexual violence, or both, by an intimate partner in their lifetime . COVID-19 consequences: Quarantine brought "pandemic of violence". It is based on many factors. First is the mandatory quarantine where women are less able to leave a violent or potentially violent situation.

Second, there is the economic pressure the pandemic has placed on families, which has been linked to increased violence (and economic abuse). By June 2020, the rate of domestic violence had increased by 25% in the three months since the start of the quarantine (Rakhmetov, 2020). Two in three women in Kazakhstan who have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner have reported being physically injured.

The situation has worsened in the last 5 years as domestic violence in Kazakhstan is not criminalized under the Domestic Violence Law and the protection of survivors is inadequate. Intimate partner violence has implications for women's reproductive health - 7% of women who experienced intimate partner violence reported having a miscarriage following their partner's behaviour.

INTERVIEW WITH PROF. RUSLAN KALENDAR ON LAB PROTOCOLS

Therefore, it may take considerable time for an editor to find reviewers who are willing to be reviewed. In addition, the peer review process does not guarantee that a particular work will be sufficiently improved in the review process. Some publishers use different approaches to support the volunteer work of peer reviewers, including financially.

An optimal solution for the peer review process would be to create a single professional hub for the research community of editors and reviewers. The role of editors and reviewers in reviewing and recommending improvements to peer-reviewed scientific papers is greater than ever before. Therefore, the involvement of an editor and an expert can be compared to that of co-authors of a paper and can be added to the list of co-authors of a paper in the role of reviewer or editor.

The names of the reviewers and the editor are desirable in the list of co-authors of the paper, so that the science is complete - open science. Also, the percentage of participation of each author and co-author in each published paper should be indicated. If you have any other comments you'd like to share with us about Laboratory Protocols in PLOS ONE, please let us know.

Therefore, researchers from different parts of the world can work together on a certain problem and add new ideas, knowledge and new approaches to the entire mega work. For this purpose, it would be more consistent to have a platform for mega-articles, with updated content that is regularly improved by adding new results from different laboratories and researchers. Scientific activity would move to a new level of scientific data exchange and the number of scientific articles would move to a new quality.

PLOS ONE has published the Lab Protocols Collection to highlight this new type of articles, launching in early 2021. This collection showcases a range of peer-reviewed laboratory protocols across our broad range, including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology , structural biology and archaeology. We spoke with academic editors and community reviewers to learn more about the importance of laboratory protocols in their field and their thoughts on the benefits of this type of article for open science.
